Andrea Pirlo To Join Frank Lampard And David Villa At NYC FC

Frank Lampard is one of the Premier League big names departing the UK for North America’s MLS.  Lampard will officially join the New York City FC on July 1st after finishing a year with parent club Manchester City as part of his new contract.

However, Lampard will have company from other European football legends in New York.  Andrea Pirlo, who spent four years with Juventus and played in the Champions League Final, is expected to join Lampard in New York.

The 36 year old midfielder was spotted in the American city earlier this week attending a baseball game.  When asked about his future football plans, Pirlo simply replied that an announcement will come later this week.

With Pirlo officially signed on alongside Lampard, NYC FC will have two of the game’s most accomplished players on their midline.  Both men have won numerous individual awards, and captured the championship titles of their respective domestic football leagues.

The experience at midfield will add depth behind NYC FC captain and lead striker David Villa on the front end.  Villa was one of the new football club’s first acquisitions with Lampard, though Villa officially joined the New York side last season.  He is also the leading goalscorer for Spain at the World Cup with 9 successful goals scored at the international tournament.

NYC FC has had a difficult start to the season, with only 4 wins in 16 games to date.  But when Lampard and Pirlo lace up with the team next month, fans of the fresh MLS club can surely bet on brighter days ahead.  With Villa in commanding form as striker, backed by two of the greatest midfielders from Europe, the American club will be a force to be reckoned with.
